Default Need help building new computer

Hello there, so I am planning on building my first PC and some help on if it will work and some suggestions on how I should build it. I really don't know what I'm doing "part" wise, but I went to newegg.com and added some basic parts to my computer I thought would be good.

I am looking towards intense gaming, I mean I want to go BIG this time and running next gens games very smooth and the more to come, but also still very efficient. As in not overheating or anything. I have had many troubles in the past with pre-built pc's.

Well, here's what I'm looking at.
mobo amd or core 2?
processor not sure about this either
memory Some said this might not be compatible with most motherboards?
Hard Drive x2
CD/Burner Don't know what cd drive I should get or if this acts as one but I do burn a lot of movies.

That all comes out at $2,174.91. Way more like a ball park figure of everything till I figure out what I should really get.

Thanks a lot guys.
