Default need help with building computer

hello, im new and i just wanted to ask a few question about somethings

ok so i was wonder if the
Intel DX38BT Motherboard - Intel X38, Socket 775, ATX, Audio, PCI Express 2.0, Gigabit LAN, S/PDIF, USB 2.0, Firewire, eSATA, RAID was better then
the
Asus P5e LGA 775 Intel X38 ATX Intel motherboard
and if it would support the ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2

and this may sound stupid but i wanted to know if i sould get ddr2 or ddr3 sdram.
also what kinda of power supply would i need

sorry for all the questions im just not all that sure about building computers, my first time trying

thank you very much for any feedback and answers

Provide links to the motherboards you mentioned- I'm lazy and don't want to go lookin' for 'em.

Also, why would you get the 3870 x2 if ATI has launched it's 4000 series? The 4870 consistently beats the 3870 x2, and it's only $300...:

Definitely go with DDR2, either DDR2 800 or DDR2 1066. DDR3 is simply not worth the extra $$$. You can spend that money on other areas of your system and get more performance out of it.

If you get the 4870, a 600W power supply should suffice.

What CPU are you going with?

Out of personal preference, I'm going to have to say opt for the ASUS board.

Also, if you don't plan to do xfire, I say save some money and go with a P35 chipset.

Currently, the 4000 series cards are all reference builds, so the brand doesn't really matter. HIS, Sapphire, PowerColor, and ASUS are all fine, the other brands are fine as well...

The E8400 is a great cpu, and also OC's really well. Good choice. I'd get a aftermarket cooler (ask someone like worshipme to recommend you one) apparently the one that ships with the E8400 is absolute crap, and if you plan to OC, a aftermarket cooler is a must.
