Default In Need of an AM2 Mobo immediately

Hi. I need a cheap(<$100) AM2 mobo to be able to game, mainly MMOs like Everquest 2.

The cheaper, the better. Just need a solid mobo, nothing fancy. Also, should I go with an open box item? They are cheaper. Thank you for your time!

if you have the I/O plate, all the cables you need, and can dl and store the board utilities and drivers, yeah, get an open box...

What AM2 board would you suggest? Most suggest an ASUS. I need one for <$100, preferably about the $70 range.

if you want ASUS, this is an open box and seems to be a decent board, check to make sure it has the right kind of memory, processor support, etc...

ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe

it's open box, so you're saving money (only $20 but it has free shipping) but you will probably need to go to the ASUS site and order the Q-connector and the backplate...

damn, I just noticed it's the same mobo as the one on cornholio's sig, maybe he can give you the skinny on it...

yeah i love this board. no problems with it, and the q connectors are a great feature. im not too sure about getting anything open box (unless its guaranteed to be in working condition). im not sure about neweggs policies on that.

How do those look? Or should I swap out the 5400 for a 6000, downgrade the memory to a cheaper one from say Patriot or Super Talent and a lower, Asus mobo?

you can RMA most open box items, but you have to be quick about finding out if it works and then sending it back, the RMA period for open box items in shorter...

I got an ASUS P5NSLI a few years back as an open box and had no trouble until recently, I think I may have bent/cracked the motherboard around the PCI-E x16 slot while changing out the video card, I had video card problems and switched out that mobo recently and am waiting on a P35 Gigabyte mobo I won on ebay, it'll be nice to have a PCI-E x16 slot again, my Asrock 775Dual VSTA has an AGP slot and a PCI-E slot, but it's only x4...

...

I'm surprised he's not checking out the ASUS AM2 board, it looks like a decent board and you guys are giving it rave reviews, the Q-connector and backplate would probably be $20 tops from the ASUS e-store if the open box doesn't come with them and he could install the mobo without them and just wait for them to arrive later, though he may not feel comfortable with an open box item...

Yep, it's open box and I have $260 to spend, and the closed box one is way out of my price range.

So can anyone provide a board <=$90. My friend is suggesting any 520 or 550 board, as he claims they are proven chipsets. I was looking at this.

Would this mobo be able to handle a 6000+ x2 and a 7800 GTX?? I don't need another mobo crapping out on me.
