Default N00b here...gaming computer.

Well right now i run on a dell 2.66ghz proc...64mb nvidia mx 420 and a gig of kingston ram.

I play WoW, CS:Source, CoD:2 and other games. I have pretty much took this computer to the limit. My mom mostly uses it for business now and we always interfere with each other. I've decided on a desktop due to me staying home while in college and for gaming (bang for buck).

Well I...of course...want to save alot of money.

I was lookin at the AMD 3500+ Orleans on newegg. It has a mobo combo suggestion that i was looking at. I am gonna get prolly a decent Soundblaster card. (alrdy have sub and nice creative speakers. Keboard and mouse aren't an issue. Prolly gonna use a reg old 19" monitor till i can get a decent LCD later.

Basically ima try and find a tower that i like and fill it =P. In order to save a lil money, ima prolly stay away from all the new dual core hotness. I just want a computer that will handle kick ass games with ease and not go out of date in the next few years. I will prolly be starting with a stick of 1gig of ram...but will prolly stop after i put another one in later. I have read alot on HDs and that i need to get a 7200 RPM one. umm what else...i can use my current comp for burning CDs so i really just need a basic cd burner/cd rom drive. I don't burn DVDs so thas really not an issue for me. What can ya guys do for me? =) I would like to keep it cheap, but not so much that it blows lol.

Sparknotes....AMD 3500+? Heard 6800GTs were only $150 but havn't found yet. what vid card then? I need to make sure i match the mobo and proc well =)

P.S. IDK anything about overclocking...well i know that it speeds up your proc, but idk how it works or n e thing.....

Thanks for your time if u read it. And hopefully i can get some help =)

Those will get you going. I didn't like the 7900GTX because it takes up too much space inside the case. Everything else is as common as eating an apple.

Yeah, definitely. Too bad I can't find that dual core AM2. Otherwise, I would add that in there. Probably cost a whole lot more. Get him a good 939 system.

Wow, this one looks pretty good for now, but I think it might be a bit expensive. Got it off of that site you linked...

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Dual-Core 512K Per Core 90nm (Socket AM2) (Retail Box-w-Fan)
http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merch...egory_Code=AM2

Serisouly though, I think he needs a regular Athlon 64 if he's going to afford this system. I'm too tired to configure any more systems, lol. Maybe tomorrow...

This motherboard does have a pretty high rating on PC World and it's under $100 which makes it a good board to get with good features:

Gigabyte GA-K8N Pro-SLI Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard

I figured he's on a budget. I'm not sure how much he's willing to spend for this system. I think that motherboard still has the capability to squeeze quite a bit of performance. But I really do like that AM2 motherboard in the above link.
