My friend smashed my power supply

I have a really old [year 2000] computer that hit the shitter years ago. My friend took the power supply and smashed everything inside and it smells weird. What the hell is the smell?

What your smelling is the odour of split capacitors. There's a couple of big ones in these switching PSU's and they don't smell nice when you break into them. Even worse when they explode!

Any energy stored in these caps would've discharged ages ago.
