The X58 accepts up to 12GB of RAM in 6 slots. So 2GB per slot.

@OP: What i7 processor will your friend be getting? Is he an OC'er? That system is a beast.

Well. I donno if I could even come close to spending that much. I couldn't bring myself to do it unless I had maybe $100,000 to spend. If not I couldn't bring myself to spend that much on a computer. Most I would spend is $2500 Canadian
