Default My First Build

Hello Everyone

In the next couple days I will order components from newegg and attempt to assemble a computer for the first time. I would like to able to play the lastest games and be able to upgrade to Vista and DX10 with minimum cost (which I reckon will be in Feb).

Here are the parts I'm planning to purchase:

Case -
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811133154
Motherboard -
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131013
CPU -
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103544
Memory (just 1 stick for now) -
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145505
Hard Drive -
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144701

How does that look? Is it all compatible and are they quality parts?
I need advice on the video card and PSU. Since I will be getting a DX10 card I'm not sure how much I really want to spend on a vieo card and I no nothing about PSUs.

Also, any tips on a first build are welcomed

Thanks

Ya processor is socket 939 and ya mobo is AM2, they need to be the same mate. Also ya have DDR RAM, but ya mobo can handle DDR2 which is faster, so get that. Love the case tho

If you want a dx10 vid card then you will have to wait a little while yet as they haven't been released. If you want to build now then you are going to need a video card of some kind. If you really want to go dx10 then i suggest just buying a cheap card then once dx10 is released go ahead and sell it or whatever and buy a good dx10 based one.

As for a power supply, the standard it seems nowadays is about 500W to be on the safe side with a high amperage on the 12V rail (like 27A or better). You can thank the modern day graphics cards for that one.

Thanks for the replies.

I choose this CPU to go with the AM2 motherboard

Will this processor handle games such as Crysis at a high setting?

PSU -
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817711002 Look good?

Can a high Watt PSU damage components that do not require that much power? How do you configure it or is it automatic?

I've heard DX10 cards will require insane amounts of power. Would it be wise to wait for a PSU that has a high current on a single 12V rail or will I be safe with an Enermax Galaxy 850W?

That PSU will pretty much power anything you can throw at it, including new DirectX 10 video cards. It will probably actually be overkill.

looks great, but the memory still willn't workk. I'd use the orig. config, and go with the asus a8n-sli premiumn mobo.
