Unhappy My computer randomly crashes

My computer specs are:
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ 2.17Ghz
1.56GB ram
160GB hard Drive
It is running window xp home SP3

And all my computer does is just randomly freeze everything that is happening it even freezes the sound so its just repeating 0.1sec of the song.

It can sometimes occur a few times in a day or it can sometime happen once every few weeks

Anyone got any ideas about it?

could possibly be sp3 how long have you had this problem was it before sp3 was installed or after.
run a virus check/spyware/ccleaner/defrag and scandisk.

ive had sp3 for about 2 weeks and the problem has been happening for about 2-3 months and ive done all of the above scans and checks.
Could it happen due to installing some extra memory which could cause it?
