Smile My attempt at the Ultimate Gaming Rig

Well, I’ve been looking at Newegg.com a lot and noticed their awesome wish-list technology. I spent a few minutes compiling a list for an “ultimate computer”. It would take me some time to collect the money to build this and I know by the time I do, there will be parts 5 times better at almost half the price, but this is just experimental at this stage. This would also be my first “complete” build.

Motherboard: ASUS P5W DH DELUXE/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel 975X ATX Intel Motherboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131025

Processor: Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 Conroe 2.93GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115001

RAM: GeIL Black Dragon 8GB(4 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Quad Channel Kit Desktop Memory
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820144074

Graphics: BFG Tech BFGR88768GTXOCE GeForce 8800GTX 768MB 384-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 OC HDCP Video Card
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143080

PSU: ePOWER EP-1000P10 ATX12V / EPS12V 1000W Power Supply 100 - 240 V UL, CE, CB, FCC, RoHs
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817101023

Main DVD Drive: LITE-ON Blu-ray Disc Triple DVD Burner
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106037

Secondary DVD Drive: LITE-ON SATA Combo Drive
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827106040

Sound: Creative 7.1 Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum Fatal1ty Champion Series
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102014

Hard Drive for OS and games: Western Digital Raptor X 150GB 10,000 RPM 16MB Cache SATA
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136035

Hard Drive for file storage: Western Digital Caviar 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136039

The OS will be Vista Ultimate…

Of course, enough fans and heat sinks to keep this baby running cool. I also have no idea what case to buy because I need one with a fairly large size (to accommodate cords and extra parts) and good airflow.

Please don’t hate me, I’ve seen a lot of posts asking if a certain build will work or not, this is just… a need-to-know sort of thing…

Thanks guys! Love the forums!

Do not get the Extreme, go for the Quad Core. As for the 8 GB of RAM, you do NOT need it. Vista Ultimate doesn't even support all of that.

For that money you should also be getting an SLi ready mobo, like the 680i chipset which is great.

Ahh... looks much better to me. I am sure people will agree with me when I say that is a very nice gaming machine.

Thx, Thelis.

Almost all my life, I've always wanted the ultimate PC, but I have never got this close to actually getting it.

I just wish I could get the money for it sooner than later. At least I have a McDonalds down the street to help.

Good point.. Im guessing what I'm saying is I've never had this "get up and do something about it" mentality. Gotta love staying up for 40 hours on end just doing random stuff on the computer.

get the DFI 680LT motherboard. Also, get the QX6800. As for RAM, 4GB will be fine.
