Use a network. The laptop being moble, it shouldn't be too hard to connect it tothe other computer. You just need networking cards for both, then a cross over cable(though I'm not exactly sure what protocols are needed for that type of connection. Or you could go the route of a hub/switch in the middle. I, personally, find that easier... Or even a router which would set up everything for you :P Just depends on how much you wish to spend really...

Default Well...

A simple 2 computer network using a crossover cable.
or
A usb data transfer cable.
Either way is simple and painless.
LOL the_other_one hit the enter key faster than me.
But really you don't need to buy useless stuff just to get the files transfered. If your laptop has the net jack on the back just go to the bios and turn it on. Same for the desk system. XP will load the drivers from there. Just use the network set up wizard to get things going and move the files. You will need a crossover cable.
A usb data transfer cable is less of a hassle to use for a once in a blue moon sort of thing. And it's handy to keep in the laptop bag for moving or copying files to other computers.
Your call, of course...

Why don't you just buy a memory stick and transfer a chunk at a time!

Yea, but it is probably easier to get a 2 way usb cable to connect noe pc to the other. Definetly cheaper than buying a usb memory stick or using a network... most people aren't set up to even use that

Though if they haven't got a dvd copier, or cd copier for that matter, without buying one, it would be rather hard...

I'm sure if it was as simple as doing that austin15 would have done it by now...hehe

What if his laptop doesn't have an ethernet card / PCMCIA card and only have a 56K modem hookup!? Memory sticks are quite cheap, very easy to use and he could use it to get music off other computers with the need of any cables what so ever.

yeah I guess so, though it does seem rather expensive to buy a 512mb one and have to make something like 10 trips... splitting the music up.

Hearing about teh USB idea seems a much better proposition, though to tell the truth, I didn't know you could get them that would do that.
and its not exactly hard to carry a laptop up, powering it up to the other computer so a big cable is not neccessary and its as simple as plugging it in, and it recognising it as a drive. Plus every computer nowadays has USB 1.0/2.0!

If you had to though, Zero4Zeros Ideas okay, though expensive (64 meg for about 18 quid...) (128 for about 20 summit quid) (256-512 (not sure) for about 30 quid) It depends on how much trips you'd want to make quite honestly hehe
