I have my video and everything editted, and then I add the music and it plays fine, but when I try to shorten the length of the audio track it freezes, and never comes back...I 've tried using a couple different songs, and tried waiting like ten minutes after I added to the audio track before I tried doing anything, but still right after I try to shorten it it freezes.

cut it in sound recorder, then import it.

Try using Virtual Dub , it will let you compress the video, maybe it will help

ya i eventually just cut it to the video length then added it to the video...kinda of a hassle but whatever
