mouse movement not smooth

whenever i try to use a laser mouse on my computer, say i try to move the cursor straight down. instead of going straight down, it will go down and to the right or left sometimes if i try to move it relatively slow. now i this an issue with all laser mice? is it maybe something to do with it being in a usb 1.1 port? or maybe do you think that my mouse has a defect or something?

Well, it may be a defect on mouse,but tell me, what type of pad are you using?

just anormal plain mouse pad, nothing special.

edit: the movement is even less smooth when it is just on the desk with out the mousepad

Well, that could be the mouse being defective. The converter may be bad.

is it maybe something to do with it being in a usb 1.1 port? or maybe do you think that my mouse has a defect or something?

now I highly doubt this has anything to do with it but the usb 1.1 does have a significantly lower data transfer rate than 2.0...do you have another PC you can try it with that has a 2.0 or maybe even another 1.1 just to be positive it is the mouse and not the PC.

I personnally think its the usb port. Like kjman said teh data transfer is MUCH slower than the 2.0
