Default Are motherboards particular to SATA speeds?

Quite a simple question. And if they are, how do I know which my mobo will take because the parts were suggested to me, I didn't pick them out

I know that some mobos have SATA or SATA II. The SATA 2 being 3gb transfer instead of 1.5 that the first SATA OFFERS.

Google for some specs of the motherboard in question, or even easier just look it up somewhere like www.newegg.com or www.aria.co.uk Most new stuff now carries SATA support, with SATAII generally restricted to the more highend stuff.
