if you want to use the same hhd with a new motherboard you will have to call microsoft and get them to switch the activation code to the new motherboard, or it wont work. Cause when they installed windows on your system it sent ALL your hardware info to mircosoft with the activation code. So the AC is linked to your motherboard. They will transfer the AC to the new motherboard if you tell them that you had to replace the board because of a dead board, and that it will be used only on that board!!
