What processor are you using? What RAM? Just list the parts you already have. That will make this easier. Thanks.

You mean AMD? Alrighty then. I'm assuming those are US dollars and not Canadian?

And out of curiosity, why do you want AMD? Intel has some great offerings too. Depends on your budget. How much for the whole system?

Also, the socket type of your processor will determine the motherboard you get. So do you know if the AMD you want is socket AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 at all? Is it Anthlon or Phenom, those would be the ones to get for gaming.

GIGABYTE makes good motherboards, a few others I know are ASUS and MSI. Just give us more info and you shall receive more in depth help.

That would definitely work for you. It supports your processor and I think you will be happy with it. Just make sure everything else you get is compatible and you should be good to go.

For RAM I know that G.SKILL is good (which I am using currently), CORSAIR is also recommended, OCZ I hear is fine. You should also get 2-4GB for a gaming system.

For video cards there is ATI and nVidia. Both are very good. Brands that make good cards XFX, Sapphire, HIS, EVGA, ASUS, VisionTek, PNY. I don't know much about nVidia but I know that any card in the ATI 4000 series would be good for you like the 4770 or 4850.

Now, are you building this whole thing from scratch? Which leaves a case, a hard drive, a dvd drive, a power supply.

For a case I would suggest Cooler Master
Western Digital makes good hard drives
LiteOn, Sony, Samsung make dvd drives
CORSAIR makes excellent power supplies.

Do you already have a monitor? and a keyboard and mouse?

Do you intend to use more advanced features such as RAID and crossfire?

The only thing I can think of for a cheaper motherboard but still good would be to find a microATX board. The motherboard you chose is huge compared to a micro motherboard. GIGABYTE does make micro models along with all the other companies. If you wanna stick with GIGABYTE then get the micro version.

Here is a good GIGABYTE micro ATX that supports your processor

^ Yep, it'll be fine. The only difference between ATX and mATX is there's less slots, but it's got enough for what most people use.

That one in particular will hold one PCIe x1 expansion card and two PCI expansion cards...that'll be wireless cards, sound cards, and random other stuff. It has sound integrated, as well as the LAN port, USB ports, Firewire, and eSATA, so you'll likely only ever use one slot for a wireless card unless you want to add USB 3.0 as well.

The other slot, the big blue one, is PCI express x16. That is used for graphics cards, though anything that goes in the x1 slot should in it as well.

Yeah XP should run fine with that, but I would recommend Windows 7. Have you tried 7 yet?

I would definitely recommend Windows 7. It is so nice. I haven't had any trouble with it at all. All my games work just fine. I have the Home Premium 64-bit edition and that's what you should get.

Check it out!

Windows xp is at the end of its life...7 is definitely the way to go. It's much more stable and secure, less annoying, more intuitive, better looking, and runs about as fast. It's a bit slower overall, but not to the extent that it matters. XP is only faster at some things because it's not as complex or advanced. Kind of like the difference in a race car and a Lamborghini, you know? The race car may be slightly faster but you sure wouldn't want to drive it around town every day.
