Default motherboard

Hi i have an old pc and i want to upgrade it myself. I have learned alot and want to know how do i find out how big my processor can be and how much memory my pc can handle. I know theres a limit and i know what type i need like only pentium 2 or what not but i just want to know how big i can go on both of these things. is there a way of figuring this out like is it written somehwere or in msdos and i can just navigate to that point. thanks.

have a look at the motherboard it may tell you exactly what type of motherboard it is or it may just have a number. let us know and what the number or name is and we or you can find out what the board can take. it will not tell you what memory or processor it can take on the mobo.
