Default Monitor works on laptop, not on desktop?

Hi,

I'm hoping someone might have had this problem before and can tell what to do. I have a SHARP 19 in LCD monitor....I had been using it for the last 3 years. If I connect it to either my HP desktop or my Dell desktop, the screen comes on, but after about 8 seconds, it goes black...no picture. If I connect it to either of my Dell laptops, it works great. As a test, I hooked it up to an IBM laptop, and it works. The monitor used to work on my Dell and HP desktop.

Thanks, Tom

I'm able to hook up another monitor to the desktop pc, and the monitor works. It's when I hook up this SHARP monitor to any desktop, that it doesn't work. You mention "GFX cards"...is this the graphics card in the PC?

Thanks!

Its possible the monitor in question that doesn't work on the Desktop, has a lower resolution display than the other one, so the monitor just cuts out, not being able to display the image.

Try lowering the resolution using the monitor that works, and then try plugging the monitor that didn't work in again.
