Default monitor turning off

when i turn on my monitor,the monitor goes on then the picture darkens and i can only see a dim image. i think the backlight went out what can i do?

Well, it sounds like it's time for a new monitor.

Do you have another monitor you can try to make sure it's a monitor problem and not some other problem?

is it LCD or CRT, i'm guessing LCD?

yea im running dual screen and the first one is the one with the problem

Are they attached to seperate ports on the video card? Try switching them to see if you have a bad DVI/VGA port or just a bad monitor.
