Monitor Problem

Hi...I'd greatly appreciate some help!
....... came back my desktop seems to be squished together, and in some sort of "Pan" mode,
Monitor - 17" CRT Insignia
GFX- ATI Raedon 9250 256 DDR PCI

that surely sounds like the vertical linearity got knocked out of whack to me. I may be wrong, but I think if it was his resolution he would have made the statement that his screen got smaller/larger...not "squished".
But then again I am always guessing at what someone is trying to post anyway
