Default Mobile CPU question

so i have been searching for some Laptops so i can use when i am at college, i still live at home, but i have class for 3-4 hours, and i am forced to stay at school for 7-8 hours because i dont have a car so i have to ride the RTD.
While looking at laptops, i see a lot of AMD Turion 64 X2, and i was wondering how good are they.
and what are they usually compared to, from what i am guessing, its compared to the Centrino

EDIT - which one will be better in performance? the Turion or the Centrino?

Desktop -Cooler Master NV690/AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE/MSI 880G-E45 Motherboard/2 x 2GB DDR3 G.Skill Ripjaws X/Sapphire HD 5870 1GB GDDR5/CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX/Seagate 7200.12 500GB (OS), Samsung F3 1TB (Storage)/Sony DVD Burner/Windows 7 Professional 64-bit

Default Re: Mobile CPU question

well centrino isnt actually a processor its a mobile platform by intel usually combining CPU,Chipset and Wireless they claim for better battery life and mobile performance

anyway the centrino platforms usually have an intel Core 2 duo at their heart and so i would say price for price the intel counterparts would be slightly better in most cases however check the cpu the laptop you wish to purchase has against any others for the price to ensure you are getting the best performance for your money as sometimes there are offers on

Desktop-AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+-2GB Elixer DDR2 800 250gb+500gb+500gb+120gb
Laptop-Apple Macbook Pro 13" Intel core i5(2.3ghz) 4gb Ram 320gb hard drive
