Yah, that could be the problem, or he got himself a trojan & his anti-virus is not picking it up.

For a try i would turn off the system restore, empty out the pre-fetch folder, and reboot to safe mode.

If you get an error while trying to boot to safe mode, just reboot again, then it should boot ok.

When you empty the pre-fetch folder, it resets it....So
if you try to go to safe mode after doing this, you might get the error mess. but it's ok...cause it will only happen once.

Now that your in safe mode run all you spyware prog.
then do a defrag of the hhd...

already checked the temps, just after a freeze it was running at 39/40 degrees. that aint to bad is it.
and also if the computer is running a busy programe, it rarely freezes. while i did a cpu check, it did not crash for the duration (6hrs). ten minutes after test finished freeze!!!

Did you check your RAM temps at all. Random freezes are usually caused by RAM or Processor, and since it isn't the processor, the RAM may be the cause. After you run something at high power (games, etc) put your finger onto the RAM (after shutting down you PC quickly) and if it is hot to the touch (as in it almost hurts but not quite) then your RAM is running far to hot.
