Default Memtest86+ with 4 gigs

Hi,

How do I use memtest86+ to test 4 gigs of RAM? When I run it, it says it only going through 3 gigs, but shows that I have a total of four. Thanks!

Do you have a 64-bit OS?

Hmmm does your mobo have 4 Ram slots? If so, how do you have your 4 gigs? Four 1GB? Two 2GB?

4 1-gigs. Memtest says I have a total of 4096, but the current test only goes from 0 - 3086

Hmmm im not sure what the issue is. I looked online and nobody seems to be having this issue.

Does your OS say its using all 4 gigs?

I think memtest is a 32 bit program. Only test two sticks at a time.

That would make sense. But I still don't understand how it knows I have 4 gigs total though.

Well, he said it is reading 3 gigs, and that he has four 1 gig sticks, so its reading 3.

If in not mistaking, 32-bit operating systems only support 3GB of ram, so that could be it.

Look online and see if there is a version specifically for 64-bit.

When running Memtest, it's best to use only one memory module at a time to weed out the bad stick if there are any problems.
