Default Memory speeds

My family has an eMachines A26EV17F. It came with 256mb of pc2100 memory. I am looking to upgrade somewhere in the range of 512mb, possibly up to 1gb if the price is right.

My question is this:
Can I use a higher speed memory in the board? Like buy pc2700 and have it work. I realize it will probably still run at pc2100 speed if it does work, but I am not sure and wanted to ask.

I have found recently that its pretty much cheaper to buy the faster stuff(maybe they raised the price on the 2100 to kick dirt at us who haven't kept up with the faster technology)

Thanks in advance for the help

Yep - it will always work at the slowest speed of the RAM.
