I currently have 1 stick of 512MB of RAm in my PC, I plan on adding 2 more sticks of 2GB of RAM. My question is my system going to run OK with 2.5 GB of RAM or am I better off just putting in the 2GB and taking the other stick of 512MB out. What do you guys think? Mobo is d945gtp

cheers

supposing the mobo supports that much ram then that shouldnt be a problem

however you may gain more by taking the 512 out and having the 2gb in dual channel mode if your motherboard supports that

have a look in the manual or on the manufacturers website it should say

or this is a tell tale however not prooving sign if the ram slots are two different colours

Seems your board has the 945g chipset http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/d945gtp/index.htm. You can run dual channel, just make sure you use 2 sticks instead of the 3.

Thanks, I was looking at this http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/tp/tp_documentation.htm

and couldn't find anything. So I should just use the two 2GB sticks? Do they need to go into certain slots and do I have to do anything special to get them to run dual channel mode? Or do I just stick the 2 GB sticks in any slots and I'll be all set?

cheers

make sure your speeds match tho. cause the two sticks if they run faster then the 512mb stick...then it'll kinda be pointless having it there.
