Me and my group have a computer system used specifically for audio production use and looking to upgrade the ram. I built the system in June and it has WinXP, Athlon Dual core 3800 939 socket, 1GB of Mushkin value ram, Biostar NVidia Geforce 6100-M9 mobo, 320GB HDD, DVD Burner, etc. The mobo has 4 memory slots in which 2 of the slots are purple and the other 2 are green I guess for dual channel purposes. What I want to know is if I were to get more of the same ram, would I be able to configure it in a 3GB setup but it would leave one of the chips without a mate for daul channel and would it work because I heard that WinXP won't except 4GB of ram.

You can get some ram at neweggs website, here is a link http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820146326 . As far as I know, you can configure the 3gb, just the other will not have dual channel enabled. However, I think 2gb is enough ram for windows xp.
