SSD is a new type of hard drive out called Solid State Drive. Basically instead of having moving parts like traditional hard drives, these hard drives are flash based so they don't need moving parts, are faster in performance, and are more fault tolerant.

An 8GB SSD is not a stick of RAM, it's a full-blown hard drive.
