My room mate has a dell dimension 4400 desktop. It currently uses DDR266 memory and I was wondering if he could get maybe DDR400 memory for it, so if he wants to upgrade his mobo and processor he won't have to get new memory.

he will probably be fine, if the motherboard wont run at those speeds it will most likely downclock it, but sometimes there are problems. Just check online to see it it is supported by the motherboard
