ok, here is another stupid message.

You have a powersupply with a 20-pin connecter that goes on the mother board. HOWEVER, the motherboard has a 24-pin connecter. the 20 pin still fits in, there are 4 spare pins, will this work? or must you have a powersupply with a 24-pin connector?

sorry these are stupid newbie questions my mates are asking me but i dont know jack about hardware.

Yeah, I've heard it works, but it makes me wonder what those 4 extra pins are...

There not by any chance for Earth or something, for protection?
 
the 4 unused are +12v, +5v, Detect, Ground. +12v and +5v happen to be right above these 4, so i figured it was safe. Plus the manual said it was for a 20-pin
 
Ground will be the same as earth.

This would stop, if there was a power surge from the system, it blowing up...
