I need some advice. I am getting a new MB combo and i need to know which is better, P4 or Celeron. I am upgrading form a 800MGHTZ. I plan on spending less than 200 if possible. I am getting a ATX case so Atx form MB would be nice.

ok all i would suggest is dont get the 478 socket. its older and they are leaving that socket with the fastest cpu as 3.2ghz p4. to answer the celeron/p4 thingy, they are both made from the same company INTEL and intel makes 478 socket p4 as well as 478 socket celerons. this means just get a mobo thats not the 478 socket and then you can either get a celeron or the p4 for it.

Ok, Pentium 4 is way better than Celeron. Use LGA775 socket because it's high end. This setup is a bit more than what you are asking for, but you can shop around for whatever manufacturer you want. Take a look at the specs on these: (est price around $270)

ASUS "P5GPL" i915PL Chipset Motherboard For Intel LGA 775 CPU

Intel LGA 775 Pentium 4 520 2.8 GHz, 800MHz FSB, 1MB L2 Cache, Hyper Threading Technology

This is by no means, the best setup. But if you are considering Celeron, I will look that up for you and post later.

Get an AMD as hey are by far more cost effective even if you buy a new board and processor, and I not saying that becuase I prefer AMD it's just they are much better value for money

That CPU is not compatible with the Asus board. You'll have to use this type if you want to keep that motherboard:

AMD Athlon 64 2800+, 512KB L2 Cache, 64-bit Processor - OEM

If you want to use that Athlon XP processor, you'll need to downgrade your motherboard so it supports the older Athlon's. Why would you want to limit it to under $200? If you want performance, you have to realize you have to spend a little more. Otherwise, go with a cheap motherboard and processor and don't go with that particular Asus board.

Here's another alternative quoted by someone else:
