Default Max bandwidth of internet line

is there anyway to test the max badnwidth that your line is cabable off or is it just stuck to what your ISP say. for example i live very close to my exchange point. Tiscali have sent me a letter saying that in august they are going to upgrade peoples accounts to the max speed thier line can take. this could be 2Mb to 8Mb. What i was wondering if i could test it somehow to see if i can get anything over 2Mb

Download/upload loads of things, and check the speed

Noo..ring your ISP, they can check from their computers. If you are close to the ISP centre..thing, you will be able to get 8MB.

there are a lot of bandwidth tests online. Don't know how accurate they are, but they should give u some kind of idea. Just use google to find some.
