Question making dvd copies

Is there any free software which will allow me to make copies of movie dvds? I need to make copies cos my friends borrow my discs all the time and they don't come back in good condition half the time.

There does seem to be some confusion with regard to this subject, basically you are allowed to make a copy of the original disk for personal use. Any use other than that i.e. redistribution or hire for profit is where it become illegal.

DVD Decrypter also works. If you're going to go through all that trouble, you might as well compress the DVDs to a higher quality for computer playback. Or are you just trying to backup DVD's?

As far as I can tell, I think iamroot just wants to backup DVD's.

Oh, I see... while we're on that topic, I'd like to ask a question... do any of you have InterVideo DVD Copy 5 Platinum?
