The other day i placed a small fan (about 10 inches in diameter) about a foot and a half away from my computer. It didn't occur to me at the time that the fan's magnetic field could possibly damage the hard drive. I havn't booted the computer up since the incident ( Its now packed away waiting to be taken home) Is there any chance that the fan's magnetic field was strong enough to erase any of the data on my hard drive ( the computer was not turned on when the fan was placed near it)

No i dought it if you put a magnet on the drive it might cause you could say that the moniter could damage so basicly nothing should be wrong with it

Nah, fan won't do anything to the Monitor let alone the Computer. Its safe - unless there is a thick Iron not-coated rod in the middle of the fan and coils of electrified wire on each of the fans! :D

Not from a fan. I have had a subwoofer next to my hard drive and it blew after a couple of months. I finaly worked out why!
