Default Looks like a dead PSU. Smells like it

Hi, had a power cut, but tis ok got me a surge protector. Booted pc back up. Loud electronic crackling. Thing powers down burning smell? Wont power on. No life. Using my nose I smelt out the XFX XXX Extreme edition 650W PSU. It's about 20 months old. I think I might of heard the sound earlier that day, wasn't sure though, had headphones on and I thought it was my radiator (electric).

So? I guess I can send it back to XFX for warranty (2 yr). Should the PSU of died? I bought an expensive one so it wouldn't crack up. Currently running

Q6700 @ stock
5850 vapor-x
x38 board skt 775
3 HDDs

Should it of died really?
