"Looking up ....." in firefox takes too long. (general internet problem)

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could help me with an Internet problem. Here's the thing that's normal: once I establish a connection, I'm smooth sailing. However, at frequent times, I think I have trouble getting that initial connection to a web page or a download file or whatever. In firefox, it would say "looking up http://www.google.com..." and in AIM, I would have to wait to view someone's profile.

I predict that I'm having trouble establishing a connection to new places. Can anyone guide me to a possible solution?

Actually, I think I solved it... I've been looking around in my network connections and saw Hamachi running... some Lan thing, apparently. I think all is good >.< thanks anyway and I apologize for taking time away
