Personally, I would recommend you NOT to build a laptop. Not because it's hard, but because is dang expensive. You see, 1000 bucks gets you just 1GB RAM, 160GB HDD, Pentium Dual Core, and all the other crap that comes with it. For 1000 on a branded laptop, you get a Core 2 Duo and/or 2GB RAM.
