Building a budget machine for my brother... these components sound good but any suggestions welcomed. As I have said he has a budget around 500-550(and then case and PS later).

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor - Retail- $146
eVGA Geforce 6800 128-A8-N343-AX Video Card - Retail- $194
MSI K8N Neo2-F ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail- $77.50
OCZ Performance Series 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Dual Channel Kit System Memory [Speed: DDR 400 Timing: 2-3-3-6]
- Retail- $119.27

Total for main components minus case and PS: $536.77

Where are you getting a eVGA Geforce 6800 128-A8-N343-AX Video Card for $194?

things to make sure: CPU socket and motherboard socket match up. i belive the 6800 only come in PCI-E so you need to make sure that your motherboard can support it.

That is one decent computer, all looks upto spec to me!!
It is an agp 6800 isn't it, coz that mob only supports agp!!

It's agp 8x so it's compatible.

hehe...I may just ask my brother if he wants to buy my outdated machine for about 350-400 i'm thinking... since this system will cost only about 200 bucks more :D. does 350-400 sound resonable for my old comp?

AMD-XP-M oced to 2.2ghz
1 gig corsair ram 2.5-3-3-6
Abit NF7-S v.2
Radeon 9800 w/huge fan :D
and some duct tape modding

EDIT: HEHE I just noticed the price on the 6800 went down :D!

536.77 minus 65( found a 6800 for 129)= 471.77

hmmm... just thought I would see if this was better off and i should go for it...

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Venice 1GHz FSB 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor - Retail $146

Albatron K8SLi ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail $113.99

REFURBISHED: ASUS Geforce 6600 EN6600/TD/128 Video Card - OEM $71x2= $142

OCZ Gold Series 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Dual Channel Kit System Memory - Timing 2-2-2-5-
145.76

TOTAL: $547.75
Add 100 for a Thermaltake Soprano case with a Power supply :D

Difference between the two I wanted 547.75 minus 471.77= $75.98
Do you guys think my second pc configuration:

AMD 64 3000+ venice
Dual 6600 128mb SLI
1 gb OCZ Gold 2-2-2-5
Albatron K8SLi
is worth the 75.98 cents extra OR do you think I should stick with waiting for crossfire?

bump(kind of want opinions ASAP because a few deals may run out soon :()
