Hey guys...first post, and hoping someone can help me out...
I got an old abit Nforce 939 mobo that bit the dust. Got 2 sata HDD's 1 sata dvd burner, and 2 IDE HDD's with a 7800GT Pci-E GPU and running an AMD 64 3500+ (to be exact AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Venice 2.2GHz Socket 939 Single-Core Processor Model ADA3500BPBOX - Retail). I need to either replace the mobo or get something (mobo/cpu/ddr2 memory) upgrade pretty cheap. Just looking to get this PC back up and running to pass down to my son as I'm saving for a i7 PC and any money I put into this one is coming off the amount for the new one...hence why I don't want to spend a bunch. I found the below - but 1) don't know much about the Jetway mobo and 2) want to make sure all is OK with what I picked and 3) maybe get a recommendation on a better mobo without spending a lot more... JetWay JM26GT4 AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail Item #: N82E16813153120 $41.99 G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-6400CL5D-4GBPQ - Retail Item #: N82E16820231122 -$10.00 Instant $52.99 $42.99 AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200 Brisbane 2.7GHz Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Processor Model ADO5200DOBOX - Retail Item #: N82E16819103210 $54.99 actually I think this ECS board is a little better. Only thing I've seen though is the manual says AM2+ but mentions nothing for just the AM2 CPU I picked. Anyone know for sure that it'll work? ECS A780GM-A AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail Item #: N82E16813135075 $10.00 Mail-in Rebate $69.99 OCZ SLI-Ready Edition 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model OCZ2N800SR4GK - Retail Item #: N82E16820227269 Return Policy: Limited Non-Refundable 30-Day Return Policy -$13.00 Instant $51.99 $38.99 AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200 Brisbane 2.7GHz Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Processor Model ADO5200DOBOX - Retail Item #: N82E16819103210 $54.99 Subtotal: $163.97 Tax: $11.97 Shipping: $7.00 Grand Total: $182.94 |

well, depending on your son's intentions...there are certain things I would buy.
Since you are replacing the motherboard and core, you might as well go Intel. If he's not going to be into any serious games. Grab a celeron dual core E1200. it's like a 39 dollar processor. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...545&CatId=3638 There's and excellent board to match it for 50 dollars http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...109&CatId=1572 and only 2Gb of RAM because who would use a 64 bit OS with a CDC E1200? http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...rchTools/item- details.asp?EdpNo=2231927&CatId=1872 You could also grab a PDC E2200 instead of a CDC E1200. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...307&CatId=2851 Much luck to you and your build(s) Take pics of teh I7, I likes

thanks, but if I was upgrading I wanted to go 4gb ram. Windows XP 32bit can see 4GB...anything higher would be useless unless I went 64bit.
I ditched the jetway, and went ECS. I like it so far. My son is only 7 so it's not gonna be "intense" gaming, haha |
