Alternatively you could also order free CDs of Ubuntu. You can do that from here. The only downside is the long waiting time (about 2-4 weeks).

Actually the problem was with my burning software. I was using an old version of nero. After I upgraded to a newer version I was able to burn the disk easier and my cdrom read it and it immediately booted to linux.
