The console, also known as terminal, should be listed under Applications.. I forgot the exact location now, but if you don't get it by the time you see this, I should have its location.

For installing some common applications, as well as Nvidia drivers, you can use Automatix which is an installer with a GUI for Ubuntu:

i figured it out for him. its working now. we used terminal and sudo something or other
