Cool Which linux?

Hey
Im trying to figure out which linux distro I want to use on my dual boot system... Im really only looking for something flashy to show off... It wont have alot of use beyond that. Im using an 8800 gtx and have an 80 gig solely for the linux o/s. Anything 3d would be awesome...

Any ideas? Thanks ahead of time

It's not over flashy but I'd recommend Ubuntu (the normal version). There are loads of applications, features, etc. and if you don't have a broadband connection or just don't want to download it and burn it to a disc, there's a free CD version available. I've already ordered and received discs that way already and I have more ordered to replace the ones I've lost and share with others. The version borat posted looks cool too, especially if you are just installing to show off.

Ive only used Linux twice, and one was PC Linux 2007 and the other Ubuntu... I don't know if any of those are compatible but if you are looking for graphics, set up Beryl... I have no idea which one can do that.. So you'll have to wait on that.

I've used Ubuntu and Gentoo. Perhaps b/c I used Gentoo second and I was use to a linux enviroment, but I liked it more.

I loved the versatility of Gentoo, (gaming with linux, wow), portage was awesome, I could tailor it very specifically to my needs, and overall I felt like I had a lot more control then in Ubuntu or any other OS for that matter. (I regularly use XP at home, Vista at work, and OS X in school, so I'm comfortable with all them and I can say I like Gentoo the best).

Just to clear up a couple of things on this thread. Steemax said to get Beryl. Beryl doesn't exist any more. Now it is called Compiz Fusion. www.beryl-project.org Compiz is a great program, only if you have a video card that can handle it.

Next Gentoo is a great os as redbeard said there are many thing that it can do, although I haven't used it yet. http://www.gentoo.org/

For ease of installing and setting up Ubuntu is the way to go. http://www.ubuntu.com/ Ubuntu runs on the Debian kernel. http://www.debian.org/

The other thing I wanted to clear up is Fedora Core which is version is currently 8. http://fedoraproject.org/ Fedora Core is solely a Community based only project, which started from Red Hat. Not Ubuntu with beryl built in.

I wouldn't recommend Ubuntu Studio unless you are looking to do a lot of stuff with programs like Pro-Tools, Photoshop, or any high end video editing software.

The thing about linux in any OS is that it isn't set up by default to be flashy. It is set up to be functional first and flashy last. That being said there are my add-ons and programs that you can download for free and increase the flashiness of your OS.

Cheers.
