Default Which Linux?

I am gonna download linux and load it onto my second HD. I was wondering if anyone could point me to a good distribution. I need one that can do all the basic stuff Windows does but also has a nice GUI. If anyone could help that would be great!

Ubuntu is a good one. It uses gnome as a GUI and is fairly user friendly.

I second the notion for Ubuntu. You can also try KUbuntu if you wanted, which uses KDE making it similiar to Windows.

SUSE is ace, but ubuntu is ace for beginners. Start with a live version to get used to it, thats what I did anyway.

Ubuntu is a very nice distro, also you can consider Fedora Core 5 which came out a few weeks ago.
