I think I got it down pack. Now all I need to do is actually do it. I wish I was at home right now. I'm at my friends boyfriends house atm.

Hey, if you wait until I do it on monday or tuesday, we could start off a world record for the most number of heatsinks replaced at the same time

Might be worth using something in that case for my next install. I don't want to take risks of making my CPU run hotter than it should this time round.
It made a big difference in my system, dropped my temps about 10 degrees c after I cleaned out all the dust that was packed in my heat sink and was restricting the airflow.

But, make sure that you only put a very very thin layer of thermal compound on the cpu die, it's all you need. I would reccomend Arctic Silver 5.

10 degrees C, really?...

I cleared dust off my system the last time I did it about a week ago. The heatsink was packed with dust, so I took it off, put it in water and then dried it with a hairdryer...

I only used cheap compound though when I placed it back, but I'm replacing the heatsink anyway.

I may have put too much on to. You may have seen my thread where I put the whole 0.5 mil tube onto the bottom of the heatsink

The heatsink/fan I'm getting on Monday/Tuesday though:

The Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 pro, comes with its own make of compound which in reviews, works better than Arctic Silvers compound with that particular heatsink.

Well actually it lowered it 8c not ten, my heatsink was packed with dust and I think I had a little too much Arctic Silver 5 on it so that may have made a difference.

definitly, the cooling helps.
It's like 80F in this room right now and I'm still running at 40c (104F) where before it would run my cpu temp at 48c and sometimes 50c.

Yeah, thats really good.

After a cleanup of mine, temps are when working hard, around 53-55 degrees C still, where as idle temps have gone down about 3 or so degrees to 43-45 degrees C.

Can't wait to put that new one in

Ok I will just wear shoes and work on my Kitchen Table, where there is no carpet. That should work right?

Yeah, I'd say so.

If theres a radiator or something near you, that'll definietly help.
