My moms computer just got ravaged by some virii, thats not the problem.

I did a 'cheat' fix and just swapped out the hd. Installed windows off a disk I had lying around, and it says 30 days to activate.

I'm assuming this is where the product key comes in. Can I just grab the key from the old hd and use it for the new windows? I'll be nukeing the old hd if that matters.....
