Default Legal Windows

What can be defined as legal windows xp.

Funny thing, my cousin burned me a copy of the windows xp that he bought and gave me the cd-key that was on it

The key was the widely used FCK...RHQQ2 cd-key that is used in most illegal copies of windows xp pro

So either he acutally has the real copy of that famous cd-key or someone gave him a fake, i think its a fake as he bought it in a different country for really cheap

Now do i have this correct, but you to have windows legally installed (as in being able to download all the updates) you need the the exact key that coexists with the cd it belongs to and you must register under the name of the owner of the cd?

Can the cd be a burned copy and still work?

How many installations can one legal cd do?

You can only use one concerent copy of windows.
that is to say,
If you buy windows from a shop you may install it on only one PC.
if you throw away that PC then you can transfer the license onto your new PC.

If you buy a new PC that comes with windows the copy of wnidows you get wil usually have an OEM license that *must* stay with that machine, if you throw away the machine you also throw away the license.

Chances are if you're friend got it on the cheap then it's ilegal.
the only possible exception would be if he bought it in america where the prices are lower anyway.

You can install it and then activate it with another code. I have done it!
The CD does not contain the code, just an alogarthym to check it so no one will no if you activate with an second code.

Or you can do like I do and get a hacked corperate copy you don't have to activate. (I can still do updates despite my >640 PID).
Or you could get registration program, t's an EXE when you run it it says windows activation complete and the activation thing never bugs you again.

(I thought this was a leagal question)

So you want a product without paying for it? Thats stealing and there is no legal way to get it without paying.

You could buy a site license, then you could install it on lots of PCs from just one disc. (leagally)
