LCD of my SONY VAIO flickers

Hi,
I am new here, and want to know about an error of my Sony Vaio.
when i low the brightness then it starts flickering (mean automatically brightness go high, low, high, low with high frequency). Can anyone suggest what is this problem about and how it can be removed?

Does the software react when it does that? Like, can you see the on screen display showing the adjusting, or does it occur independently of the software?

If your VAIO has the automatic backlight adjustment technology, it could be malfunctioning. Which model / revision of Vaio do you have?
