I have a question for you guys. I want to know if it would be possible to write a script to run on my Linux router or another PC that would ping one server and use WOL to turn on another if it is off. My theory is that since WOL uses MAC addresses and TCP/IP uses ip addresses I should be able to set my main server and each backup with the same ip address. Do you guys think that would work? Ideally the router would detect the main server is off or crashed and would then turn on one of the backups. It would be almost transparent because they all use the same IP but only one at a time.
