Question Large File Transfers (comparison tools?)

I am planning on a transfer of a single 3gb+ file over a LAN. Sometimes in the past I have noticed failure/corruption of such large files due to network problems. Is there any way to accurately facilitate or check the file transfer in Windows XP?

What I plan to do so far was copy the file, compare the byte size using the properties dialog. Is there a better way?

I would appreciate any feedback on this matter.
