Laptop: Yay! No worky: boo!

I just recieved a P3 500MHZ with 12Gb HDD and 64M of RAM, and when I try to lught it on...there's nothing at the screen

Could this be because I use another power plug to light it on? Or, do I absolutely need the Compaq plug?

BTW, model is: CompaQ Armada M300

You can use substitute plugs but it HAS TO MATCH the listed rating.
The ?. What do you get when it is turned on, Anything? Lights? Sound?

Just the keyboard lights...the power light isn't on

I just use something that just lights it on...I don't think they match...

That is probably your problem! The input power must match or system auto shuts down. Check the model # and then go to compaq and see the model of power plug and then do a search for that and you will find what the output power is and match that and then see if you can get it up.
The other thing is to check for a battery replacement and use a fully charged battery to start it up with and see if it comes on.

Umm, it never came with a battery

But it lights on without it sooo...I'll have a look for the power plug
