laptop stalling at startup

i formated my laptop hard drive and then installed win 2000 pro. not every time but a lot of the time after the screen that says win 2000 it stalls at a blue screen (before task bar and icons pop up) with the hour glass. the mouse moves and it eventually logs on. i want to know why it happens and how i can fix this. thanks

What processor does the Laptop have? How much Ram? It just sounds like its not fast enough for Windows 2000.

When u boot up go to the menu with safe mode and all that and choose something like "enable my last settings or congifuration that worked" and it might help
