Default laptop not working

my parents have a dell 1520 and for a while the computer would only turn on if it was plugged in and now it will not turn on at all...think it is the battery?

It most likely is the battery.

i tried plugging the adapter directly into the computer with the battery out and it still does not work but i just didnt want to buy a battery and the board or something be fried

Well...technically the motherboard could be fried...but I think you should still be turning on/seeing some LEDs.

its doing nothing,no lights no sounds no nothing and its not even 2 years old

i actually just figured i it out..was the battery but the wall outlet i used in my house was fried so i tried a different outlet and it turned right on..funny how its the one thing u dont think of
